| The Charlotte County Library System, a division of the Charlotte County Community Services Department, is pleased to announce the 50th anniversary celebration of the Port Charlotte Public Library at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at the Port Charlotte Public Library, 2280 Aaron Street. Our library first opened its doors in 1961 with the Port Charlotte University (PCU) over near Easy Street. PCU is now known as the Cultural Center of Charlotte County, but we are still happily cohabiting and giving to the community every day.
We will have local business information tables and displays of historic library photographs and memorabilia from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., a huge birthday cake cutting ceremony at 12:00 noon, and a very visual presentation of the library's celebrated journey at 1:00 p.m. Library highlights from the past 50 years, including cameos from former staff and volunteers.
Come out and see how many answers you can get on the library trivia contest. Leave us your memories in our memory booth . Enjoy music and refreshments, and learn more about the library's long history and the surrounding area businesses. Local authors will also be on hand to sign their books and regale you with their memories of the library.
The Friends of the Port Charlotte Library will be holding a raffle for door prizes and a 50/50 raffle to help raise money for the revitalization of the library's aging shelving and furniture.

Animal lovers, rejoice! The Cultural Center will host the third annual Crazy-4-Paws Pet Expo, sponsored by The Cat Cottage and Canine Castaways, on Saturday, August 27th from 9am to 3pm in the Conference Center. This fabulous event brings people and pets together for all sorts of activities including a juried dog show and an Adopt-A-Thon. There is no charge for your pet to participate in any of our fun, friendly competitions throughout the day. In addition to these great events we will also have a special pet friendly menu and a Doggie Bake Sale. Different vendors will also be on site with pet products that range from specialty toys to 'Canine Couture.' We have more vendors than ever this year, so come out and see what they have to offer.

His cameo during The Best of Burlesque won him rave reviews for his comedic timing and delightful magic tricks. General admission tickets are $5 for Cultural Center members or $6 for non-members. Berri is originally from Australia, and was discovered by Cary Grant while working at the Magic Castle in Hollywood. Cary took Berri to New York where he appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. From that show, his career took off. There followed appearances on many major T.V. shows, and many lounge shows in Las Vegas, Reno, Lake Tahoe, Wendover, Laughlin, as well as various showrooms and comedy clubs around the world. Between engagements on land, he made many appearances on top cruise lines. Berri has appeared on T.V., films, radio, stage, and has done voice-overs for many commercials.
